Life as a WIP
|
| Buzzfest was today. People watching was outstanding. Top prize for coolest audience member: the little mohawked kid down in the mosh pit*. Questioning by Evans Blue revealed that he's eleven, and he's already rockin' out. Awesome.
And the winner for best show on the second stage is The Bravery.
MrIris was quite happy with Evanescence's performance. I... I feel ambivalent about them. I like the band, I just don't like Amy Lee's vocals. She's too whiny. And I want to like her. Because, seriously, when I turn on a rock station (rock, not pop, folk, indie, or country) there's maybe one song in an hour or two by a band that counts at least one woman as a member. But I just can't. Too weepy.
Finger Eleven's Paralyzed is totally stuck in my head again, because they ended their set with it. It was actually pretty cool, because they did a Led Zeppelin/Pink Floyd tribute in the middle of the song before going back to the chorus. But still, now it's stuck.
Chris Cornell? He sounds good live. He always sounds good live. I have to be honest, though: I was a little bit disappointed. Because of the format, he only had an hour, and of the twelve songs he performed, the only ones I hadn't heard him do live before were the three from his new album. His new drummer is hard core, though. :)
Um... Smashing Pumpkins? Please do not try to emulate Jimi Hendrix. Otherwise, thanks muchly for Zeitgeist and for getting back on the road.
* The show's sponsor gave away pit passes. But the venue had signs posted specifically asking people not to mosh. I think there's a failure to communicate somewhere. | comments: 2 spoke or tell me why you're here |

| If anyone else in my lab breaks something or has a problem today? They can take it to someone else.
In the last two hours, I've had to deal with a(nother) broken CO2 incubator, the dying blower motor in the tissue-culture hood, the always-problematic x-ray film developer, and a malfunctioning semi-dry transfer apparatus.
Plus, somehow I got volunteered to plan a baby-shower for a student in my lab. NOT IN MY JOB DESCRIPTION.
No more, I say. I have my own shit to do. | comments: 2 spoke or tell me why you're here |

| Is it really?
IDK. But here, in the day's honor: have some more of the Epic Love Story 'verse, a result of more collaboration between Tabby and me. Shh! "Collaboration" sounds way more serious than the IM squeeing that was actually involved.
National Cuddle Day (link to LJ), 500 words, kid/teen-friendly, Bob Bryar, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and Brendon Urie.

| Overheard at the Lucy exhibit today:
teenager A: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was written about her, I'm sure. teenager B: Sure, we could look it up on Wikipedia. Who sings that song?
I despair. Seriously.
Also overheard:
small child to sibling, standing in front of mural of various hominids: I don't understand why if god gave them the ability to make clothes, they didn't wear them.
Also, LJ? Please to be sending me comment notifications. Thnxvrymch. | comments: 2 spoke or tell me why you're here |
| OK, there is bandom fic posted at a shared LJ,Tabby'n'Iris's fic.
( Band pics here )
That sucking sound you heard a few months ago? Me, finding another fandom in which to participate. Yeah, I know, I didn't need one. But Tabby sent me something to beta, and I had listened to the band (Fall Out Boy) and seen them in concert, but hadn't even considered slashing the guys in question (Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump). I was intrigued.
How did Fall Out Boy fic expand to Panic! and MCR? Panic! at the Disco and MCR are, like, six degrees of Pete Wentz: FOB did the Warped2005 with MCR in what became The Summer of Like, and Pete Wentz founded Decaydance, a branch of the Fueled by Ramen label, and signed Panic! at the Disco back when all the Panic! boys were not even out of high school.
So. Time passed, and I wasn't really writing or reading much. Then text messages got us going. Tabby had this idea after MCR's lead singer got married, given his regular onstage behavior with/toward one Frank Iero. She was maybe possibly looking for me to be disciplined and tell her not to write it. But being the evil codependent enabler that I am, I gave her suggestions, and it snowballed.
Parts of this were written via text message, so there's a bit of back and forth in POV.
Parts have not been extensively beta'd.
We sorta ignored the existence of real-life girlfriends for some of the guys involved, and make no claim to follow any true canon. No, FOB, PatD, and MCR are not all touring together, and likely never will.
We have no shame about being angsty, emo, porny, fluffy, or schmoopy. Sometimes in combination.
Ratings vary from teen-friendly to adult by installment.
You have been warned.

| Home. Three weeks is a long time to be gone, me thinks. Unless you're leaving and never coming back. Which would have been fine with me.
My body thinks it's Sunday afternoon, and it's time to be doing things, but it's Saturday evening I've been awake for... too many hours to count.
I'm sure there's other stuff to be done (like laundry), but I'm gonna type some fic and scan LJs while MrIris sleeps. I'm sure I missed TONS (and OMG, how I missed you all! I am so completely and utterly addicted to the internet and my community of friends here) so if there's something important, link me. Please?

| OK, the last load of laundry is washing. Then it'll be packing-up time. The cats are at the vet's. Mail held. Neighbors informed. Passports copied. Contact info, such as it is, communicated.
I've gotta print out a few things, like the Gabe Saporta background info including the addresses for postcards.
Last chance. If you want one, go here and leave your name and address in a comment. (Screened.)

+ held my tongue for the sake of childhood friendships. mr iris's best friend might be a perfectly nice guy, but he is a conservative catholic republican employed by Big Oil, and i had to bite my tongue during our get-together.
+ saw Doubt. loved the ambiguity. much debate between me and mr iris as to whether father flynn was guilty or not.
+ laffed and laffed over Blue's second consecutive loss at the Big House. then held my breath waiting to see if Red could hold it together at unlv.

Here's some stuff that I posted over there earlier.
Random: a baby gecko found its way into the house. The cats usually spend the evening trying to get through the window pane to eat geckos, so this? Will not end well.
I read Supernatural: Nevermore last night. ( characterization discussed, but no plot spoilers )
And here... have a couple of drabbles.
100 words. This first one follows Unforgivable. The prompt: faith.
( faith )
The next one is part of the 100quills grid also, and occurs during the OotP school year. Prompt: weary. 100 words.

| As ordered by why_me_why_not:
(1) List 5 celebrities you would have sex with without even asking questions. (2) Put all of them IN ORDER of your lust for them. (1 being most lusted-after.) (3) Say which movie/show/thing it was that hooked you. (4) Supply photos for said people.
(5) Tag five people.
I'll start by saying this: Alan Rickman and the Phelps brothers would automatically top this list. But I thought I'd skip the Potter-related actors for once and go with some of the others.
( clicky for the pretties )
And, in twin-related news, mrsrittenrotten has posted two items of note over at twinspiration.
First, the Weasley Twin Coloring Contest. Contest, you ask? Yes. The prize? Fred and George figurines!
And second, as artist-in-residence, Mrs. Smittenrotten interviewed celestialsoda for the Fanartist Focus #8. Go, read, admire. Look at the pretty artses made 'specially for twinspiration. Mmm, Fredngeorge. | comments: 3 spoke or tell me why you're here |

This was inspired by Bull Durham, but doesn't follow the movie's plot religiously. Many thanks are owed to angela_snape and why_my_why_not for their willingness to read and edit my warped idea of a CW/Bull Durham AU.

You reply to this post with a random statement about yourself, something like, what you had for breakfast, what shoes you are wearing, the last movie you watched, etc... then I will ask you 5 random questions. You will then post the answers to your questions in your IJ with the invitation for others to leave you some random info and you ask them questions.

| I texted this to Tabby yesterday with the idea of writing it sentence by sentence on my phone, but I completely blanked when I tried to continue.
When Sam found the lipgloss in the crease of the Impala's back seat, he figured Dean's last hookup had lost it. But there was no explanation he could think of for the eyeliner in the glovebox.
Who wants to write the next sentence(s)? The more the merrier.
Random whinge: New coffee shop in the basement of my building sucks. I was all excited to have a non-Starbucks choice, but the coffee's terrible, and it's Seattle's Best, which is now owned by... you guessed it, Starbucks. | comments: 5 spoke or tell me why you're here |
