| (because they are For Me, and they are Awesome) Veiled Science (Sirius/Teddy/Victoire, NC-17, warnings): (Okay, this is hard. I want to flail and glee and grin all over the place, but I also don't want to give away any spoilers ... ack! Bear with me, please!) This is a Really Smart Fic that is (maybe at First Glance) a plot-what-plot fic, but even the most cursory reading of it will make you think Deep Thinky Thoughts about life and death and the afterworld and What-Exactly-Is-Behind-That-Veil-Anyway. Also, it is Really Hot. Did you see me mention the plot-what-plot bit? Like I said, it is not exactly that, but there is a lot of Things What Maybe Should Be Happening In Bed (or not in bed, as the case may be. But if there was a bed, that would be okay, too.) Really Hot, all right? So mind the warnings, since there are some, and maybe you shouldn't read this if you don't like the warnings (although, you know, it is meant to be Kinky Kristmas, right? So maybe you will like this, Dear Reader! Because - like I said - it is Awesome.) Persuasion (Pike/Spock, R): Okay, so there are Many Excellent Reasons why you might think of a Jane Austen novel upon reading the title of this fic. (I mean, there are ships and starships, and the title is the same, and all that...) But fortunately, Spock is not A Very Persuadable Silly Girl, the way Anne rather was, and he doesn't let anyone muck up his life for seven years. Because that would be Quite Tragic, and we would have missed out on all the Wonderfulness that happens in this fic. This is like, perfect Spock. He's clearly alien - and watching Chris figure that out is delightful - and trying to understand human customs, and through it all, he's beautifully characterized. And he and Chris are perfect, the way they come together in this. This is My Sort Of Romance, really, because it is not-too-sappy and not-too-sad, and passes all the other tests that Goldilocks would go through before determining that it is Just Right For Her. (Although ... really, Goldilocks? Too hot? I'm not sure there is such a thing...) Go! Read! Make the holidays merry and read a lovely story ... and make the authors happy by leaving them a comment! :D | ||||||||||

| For the second day of Christmas, I wanted to give props to eeyore9990. For starters, Eey just plain makes fandom fun. She recs, she writes (well, I might add), she betas, she cheerleads, she stands up for people who can't stand up for themselves. She is one of my favorite people in fandom. Plus, she's funny as heck and tells the best anecdotes. She's also super open-minded and always there for me when I need to try a new kink but sort of need someone to hold my hand, and her ability to brainstorm is second to none. Seriously, I have a fest fic coming up and it would have been just a regular old smutty fic, but Eey helped me come up with an ending that had me roaring with laughter! I'm so happy to know Eeyore9990. And in other news, once again, ZICAM ROCKS! I feel 85% better than I did this morning. Not perfect, but dude, I even started a drabble for alisanne. Hopefully other drabbles will follow. I love being productive! | ||||||

| I can't help but feel a bit smug today. I won the fest lottery--again!--over on snapelyholidays! I know there are a ton of you on my flist who are true and deep fans of Snermione, and as such, you will want to rush over to read my gift: Out of This World. This fic is so peaceful and gently written, infused with wry humor and Muggle history. The setting is perfect, the character development believable and true, and the relationships between them all (there is a supporting cast that comes as a bit of a pleasant surprise) comfortable and secure. Whoever my mystery author is put a lot of time and research into this fic and it shows. The pacing is perfect and the whole feel of the story is fantastically suited to each section. That's... probably an odd way of putting it, but the story goes through more than one moment in time. I loved this fic. I'm feeling floaty and peaceful after having read it, and considering what a shit day I had yesterday, that's really kind of awesome. If the author is on my flist, THANK YOU! You've made my week with this, if not my month and year as well! | ||||||||

| I had sent in a message, and received this response overnight: Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. We understand that gender is not binary, and intend to respect that understanding for our users. At this time, the code you reference is not live on the site, and will not become so in the future. We know that you, and many other users, have serious concerns about any requirement to specify gender, so we'd like to take a moment to explain events and our position further. The intention of this code was to change the sign-up process to include a field for the selection of gender; that the code would completely disable the "Unspecified" option at the same time was deemed unacceptable. While the code in question had gone to our beta (testing) server, it had not gone to our production server, and will not do so due to this problem. Furthermore, we'd like to clarify that code posted to the changelog community is not always final, as such code must then go through the beta testing process and can often be changed before actual implementation. Additionally, some erroneous information has been spread regarding the potential public display of the gender field. We would like to clarify that gender is not currently publicly displayed on the profile, nor anywhere else on the site, and there are no plans to change this behavior. | Today has been an all-around wonderful day for many reasons, so I am happy to be ending this day on another happy note by rec'ing a fic and a piece of art, neither of which are pieces I would usually pay much attention to. My preferences, especially within the past two years, are more for the gen/light-rated fics and art, therefore, when I read this fic and saw this piece of art, I was quite surprised that they both caught my attention. Yet, they did, and I am so very happy about that. First, the fic: Okay, chan is so not my thing, but... but... there is now an exception, and it might have opened up the flood gates for me to read more of it - yes, I just might be damned - lol! So if you want to go see what has me possibly contemplating a walk into the dark side of things, here is the fic in question: ( Fic Rec ) Second, the art: This is a lovely rendering of Harry and Severus in the throes of passion, and oh what a beautiful image it is. the colors, the way their bodies have been drawn, the loving way their fingers are touching... it all combines to give us a glimpse into what two people in love experience. ( Art Rec ) So now I am off to bed, hoping that tomorrow is another productive day, and also fervently hoping that perhaps the fog will decide to leave! re: my icon - no one else has permission to use this, other than the artist, of course, if they want to when reveals happen - it is from the art my snarry_holidays secret santa gifted me with, and I received permission from the mods and artist to use the art, with my addition of santa hats, in this icon. | ||||||||
